Designed by Joong-Hyun Kim the SIG sunglasses not only protect your eyes from harmful solar radiation but also harvest solar power to charge your gadgets.
The SIG, or “Self-Energy Converting Sunglasses” have lenses with dye solar cells, which are able to transform solar energy into electric energy while protecting your eyes from the harmful rays. The sunglasses have a built-in jack which is compatible with most small gadgets (iPods, MP3 players, etc.) and can can power them while you’re taking a walk on a sunny day. I’m not sure about this, but it seems that the SIG sunglasses don’t have an internal battery to store the transformed energy.
This gadget is still a concept, and I hope they come up with other designs because the idea behind the SIG Sunglasses is quite clever.
