LG has produced the first chip destined to the functioning of high speed internet on mobile devices, an innovation which makes possible reaching a 60 Mbps downloading speed and 20 Mbps uploading speed.
Theoretically, the chip has a band width of 100 Mbps download/50 Mbps upload, and the technology it will function in is called 3GPP LTE (Long Term Evolution); it represents the fourth generation of technological standards for mobile phones.
Compared to Asia, Europe is not doing so well at technology innovations; the last accomplishment in this field belongs to the Swedish team of Ericcson and it is a Turbo-3G network offering a maximum band width of 21 Mbps.
We mustn’t despair, as several mobile phone operators in Europe have expressed their interest in 4G technology, so it should not take too long for us to come closer to Korean and Japanese technology.
